Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 11, 2026
Skorven ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website skorven.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and what control you have over it. We are the data controller for the information described here; you can reach us at [email protected] about anything on this page.
The short version: you can play every game without an account and without giving us anything. Signing in is optional and exists only to sync progress across devices and place you on the leaderboard. We do not sell data, we do not run advertising, and we do not record your screen or your sessions.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Automatically Collected Information
When you visit the Site, our analytics provider and our host receive technical information about the visit, including:
- Your IP address, from which an approximate city-level location is derived
- Browser type, version, and operating system
- Device type (desktop, tablet, or mobile) and screen size
- Pages you visit, and time spent on each page
- The referring website or source that sent you here
We use this to understand which games people play and to keep the Site fast and working. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it. Where analytics storage is denied (see section 2), this information is measured without cookies and in aggregate.
1.2 Game Progress Stored on Your Device
Games store progress — completed levels, stars, best times, streaks and settings — in your browser's localStorage. When you are not signed in, that data stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data, switching device or playing in a private window will remove it.
1.3 Account Information (Optional)
Every game works signed out. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile photo with us, and we store them along with a Google-issued account identifier. While signed in, we also store on our servers:
- Games you mark as favourites
- Which games you have played, how many times, and when you last played them
- Game progress synced from your device, so it follows you between devices
- Star totals and scores submitted to the leaderboard
- Star ratings you give to individual games
What other people can see: your display name and profile photo appear publicly next to your entries on the leaderboard and on game ratings. Your email address is never shown publicly and is readable only by you and by us.
1.4 Messages You Send Us
If you use our contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you type, so that we can reply. There is no obligation to use your real name.
1.5 Information We Do Not Collect
We do not require an account to play. We do not collect phone numbers, postal addresses or payment details — there is nothing to buy. We do not record your screen, mouse movements or browsing sessions, and we do not build advertising profiles.
2. Cookies, Local Storage and Consent
The Site uses the following, and nothing else:
- Analytics cookies — Google Analytics sets cookies (
_ga,_ga_*) to measure visits. See consent below. - Local storage — used to keep your game progress and settings on your device, and to keep you signed in if you have an account. This is not a cookie and is not transmitted to us.
- Security cookies — our host, Cloudflare, may set a cookie to distinguish real visitors from automated abuse. This is strictly necessary for the Site to stay available.
2.1 Consent
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage are set to denied by default using Google Consent Mode. In practice this means no analytics cookies are placed on your device, and measurement happens in aggregate without identifiers. Outside those regions, analytics cookies are set on arrival; you can prevent this by blocking cookies in your browser or by using a browser-level Do Not Track or tracker-blocking setting, which we honour by design because we deploy no tracking beyond what is listed above.
2.2 Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which games and pages are used. You can opt out on any site by installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
2.3 Advertising
We do not currently display third-party advertising on the Site, and no advertising or ad-targeting cookies are set. Skorven is free with no paid tier. If we introduce advertising in future, we will update this policy and this section before any ad code goes live, and EEA/UK visitors will be asked for consent first.
2.4 Fonts
Pages load fonts from Google Fonts. This means Google receives your IP address in order to serve the font files. Google Fonts does not set cookies.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Run the Site and let you play the games
- Save and sync your progress, favourites and ratings if you have signed in
- Display leaderboards and public game ratings
- Understand which games are played, so we know what to build next
- Reply to messages you send us
- Detect and prevent abuse, cheating and security problems
- Comply with legal obligations
3.1 Legal Bases (EEA/UK)
If you are in the EEA or UK, we rely on: contract, to provide the account features you asked for; legitimate interests, to keep the Site secure, working and understood in aggregate, balanced against your rights; consent, where analytics storage requires it; and legal obligation, where the law requires us to act. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
4. Who We Share It With
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We use the following service providers, each of which processes data on our behalf under its own terms:
- Cloudflare Pages — hosting and content delivery for the Site
- Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore (Google) — sign-in, and storage of account, progress, rating and leaderboard data
- Google Analytics — aggregate usage measurement
- Google Fonts — serving typefaces
- FormSubmit — receives the contents of our contact form and forwards it to our email address
- Law enforcement or regulators — only where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others
Your display name and profile photo are also shared publicly on the Site itself, as described in section 1.3.
4.1 International Transfers
Our providers are global and operate servers in several countries, including the United States. Where personal data is transferred out of the EEA or the UK, those providers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent approved transfer mechanism.
5. Your Rights and Choices
5.1 Self-Service Controls
If you have an account, the profile page gives you two buttons that need no request and no waiting:
- Download my data — exports everything we hold about your account as a JSON file.
- Delete my account — permanently erases your profile, favourites, play history, ratings and every leaderboard entry, and removes your sign-in record. This cannot be undone.
To remove progress held on your device, clear site data for skorven.com in your browser.
5.2 EEA and UK Users (GDPR)
You have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to receive a portable copy, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. The controls above cover access, portability and erasure immediately; for anything else, email us and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
5.3 California Users (CCPA/CPRA)
You have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request its deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. Exercising these rights will never result in a worse experience on the Site.
5.4 Making a Request
Email [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm the request from the email address attached to your account, so that we do not act on someone else's behalf.
6. Data Retention
- Account data — kept until you delete your account, after which it is removed immediately and permanently.
- Analytics data — retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months, then deleted automatically.
- Contact form messages — kept in our email for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and any follow-up.
- Progress in localStorage — stays on your device until you clear it.
7. Children's Privacy
The Site is intended for users aged 13 and older, and creating an account requires a Google account, which has its own age requirements. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under the age of digital consent in your country — which is 16 in some parts of Europe — you should only use account features with the involvement of a parent or guardian. If we learn that we hold information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly; a parent or guardian can ask us to do so at the address above.
8. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS. Account data is held in Google Cloud Firestore under access rules that allow your profile record — including your email address — to be read and written only by you. The leaderboard and rating entries that are public by design contain only a display name, photo and score. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but if we ever become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify affected users and the relevant authority as required by law.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date, and where the change requires your consent we will ask for it before it takes effect.
