How to play Number Slide

Slide the numbered tiles into order using the single empty space - the classic 15-puzzle. Tap any tile in the same row or column as the gap to slide the whole run at once, or use arrow keys and swipes. Boards come in 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5, every shuffle is verified solvable, and your best moves and time are tracked per size.

Tips & strategy

  • Solve the top row first, then the left column, and repeat on the smaller remaining box - this layer method always works.
  • The last two tiles of a row must be rotated in together as a pair; place the second-last tile in the corner first.
  • Sliding a whole run with one tap counts each tile as a move but is far faster than single steps for your time.

Number Slide FAQ

Is every shuffle actually solvable?

Yes. Each shuffle's parity is checked mathematically before it is served, so an impossible board can never appear.

What is a good move count for the 4x4?

Anything under 120 moves is solid; expert solvers average around 60-80 with the layer method.

What is the fastest way to move tiles?

Tap a tile several cells away from the gap in the same row or column - the entire run slides in one gesture.
